WWE ‘Battleground’ results: Bayley makes her long-awaited debut
- Share via
WWE held its “Battleground” pay-per-view on Sunday, and it was a show filled with surprises. Here’s a look at the results.
Sasha Banks and Bayley d. women’s champion Charlotte and Dana Brooke
Bayley is the most popular women’s wrestler in NXT history, and many fans were hoping she would end up being Sasha Banks’ mystery partner Sunday. When her music hit, the fans in Washington, site of “Battleground”, went crazy.
The addition of Bayley to the WWE women’s ranks is something that could very well lift the entire women’s division to a new level of popularity. Bayley is extremely popular with young girls, and it will be interesting to see how the WWE promotes her.
As for the match, Banks made Charlotte tap with the bank statement, setting up an expected title match at the next PPV, “Summerslam”.
The Wyatt Family d. The New Day
After a few weeks of apparently being mesmerized and frightened by Bray Wyatt, Xavier Woods finally snapped out of it in this match, but The New Day lost when Wyatt hit Woods with his Sister Abigail finisher and pinned him.
U.S. champion Rusev d. Zack Ryder
Rusev made Ryder submit to the Accolade. Ryder’s former NXT tag team partner, Mojo Rawley, hit the ring afterward to prevent Rusev from further attacking Ryder. The crowd didn’t seem overly excited to see Rawley, who was called up from NXT last week.

Sami Zayn d. Kevin Owens
This was the match of the night, maybe even the match of the year. After a back-and-forth match, Zayn pinned Owens after two straight Helluva Kicks.
Natalya d. Becky Lynch
Natalya won iwith the Sharpshooter.
Intercontinental champion The Miz wrestled Darren Young to a no contest or double countout
Very confusing ending. Young applied the crossface chicken wing to Miz outside the ring and the ref called for the bell. Young refused to let go of the hold and the match sort of ended with no clear winner being announced.
John Cena, Enzo & Big Cass d. AJ Styles, Luke Gallows & Karl Anderson via pinfall
Cena gave Styles an AA off the top turnbuckle and pinned him.
Chris Jericho’s Highlight Reel with Randy Orton
Great mic work from both men. The segment ended with Orton giving Jericho an RKO.
WWE champion Dean Ambrose d. Seth Rollins and Roman Reigns
Most figured Rollins was going to win this one, but Ambrose pinned Reigns after a Dirty Deeds.
