$150,000 dress stolen from Carol Channing
An unidentified thief made off with a piece of Carol Channing’s luggage and with it a $150,000 beaded dress worn by the actress in numerous Broadway shows, Los Angeles police said Friday.
The sleeveless silver dress adorned with rhinestones and crystals was taken about 12:30 p.m. Thursday, just after Channing entered the lobby of the Renaissance Hollywood Hotel at 1755 N. Highland Ave., said LAPD Det. Barry Telis.
Channing’s luggage had been placed on a cart by a bellhop and was unattended.
A security video shows an African American man with a black backpack, blue T-shirt and blue cargo shorts walking into the lobby and taking the piece of luggage.
The dress was to be given to the Smithsonian Institution in Washington.
