NONCONFERENCE
Pepperdine (4-5) at UC Santa Barbara (7-1), 7 p.m. -- The Gauchos have won five consecutive games and are off to their best start since 1992-93. Sophomore guard James Powell was named Big West co-player of the week last week. The Waves had a four-game winning streak come to an end Saturday at Montana State.
Loyola Marymount (2-6) at Long Beach State (1-5), 7 p.m. -- It is a matchup of teams rebuilding as the Lions, who have lost three of four and start two freshmen, face a 49ers squad that starts one freshman and has no seniors on the roster. Long Beach State has lost three in a row and is averaging only 59 points a game. The Lions are averaging 62.6 points and are shooting 39.4% from the field.
Utah Valley State (3-4) at Cal State Northridge (5-1), 7 p.m. -- The Matadors are off to their best start since going 6-1 to open the 1988-89 season. Junior center Tremaine Townsend was named Big West co-player of the week last week after averaging 10.6 points and 9.6 rebounds. The Wolverines went 22-7 last season, but lost four starters from that team.
