Philadelphia museum moving
The oldest Civil War museum in the country will be moving from a row house in downtown Philadelphia to a classic colonial building close to Independence Hall.
The Civil War and Underground Railroad Museum of Philadelphia is slated to reopen at its new location in 2010, museum officials announced Tuesday.
The museum was founded in 1888 and has been tucked away in a four-story house since 1922. Formerly known as the Civil War Library and Museum, it was reborn in 2003 with an emphasis on the Underground Railroad.
