Seeing faults in Metro Rail
Your recent article about Metro Rail and its artworks seems to have piqued both readers’ curiosity and paranoia [Weekend Feedback, April 5]. The future of the Metro in Los Angeles will indeed probably depend on what happens in the aftermath of the next major earthquake.
But the danger will likely come not from the subway but from the elevated portions of the system.
Anyone who has ridden the Blue Line viaduct high above Slauson Avenue has probably thought, “Well, not a great place to be when the Big One hits.”
The Blue Line also passes under five freeways, including a very close encounter with the precise section of the Santa Monica Freeway that collapsed in 1994.
Talk about living on the fault line.
