Education isn’t child’s play
Re “Hillary vs. the Xbox: Game over,” Opinion, July 27
All summer, I’ve been nagging my son to put down the video game control and put in more time on his pre-11th-grade summer reading. In fact, last night I informed him that I will put some strict limits on his video gaming if I didn’t see an actual increase in reading time today. Now I see that Steven Johnson has figured out that “today’s popular culture is actually making us smarter.”
Junior needs to nail the SAT this fall. So while I’ve been trying to find a pocket-sized version of Shakespeare’s “Henry IV, Part One” for my son to take on vacation, I should instead send him out to buy a hand-held “Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas.” Of course, that will be a little more difficult, as it’s been re-rated for adult players only, and he’s only 16.
