Irvine’s Green Given Free-Agent Status

Jerry Green of UC Irvine has been declared a free agent by the NBA.
The two-time Big West Conference player of the year is not eligible to be selected in the June draft because he was available in last year’s draft. When the 6-foot-3 guard was not selected, he petitioned the NCAA to return to Irvine for his senior season.
“My goal has always been able to play in the NBA and being a free agent probably works to my advantage,” Green said in a statement released by the school. “My agent and I have an opportunity to look for the best possible situation for my abilities.”
Green, who holds seven Irvine career records, participated in the Portsmouth (Va.) Invitational camp for college seniors earlier this month and is expected to compete at the Chicago draft camp for prospects in June.
He led the Anteaters to National Invitation Tournament berths the last two seasons.
