Maxicare Health Plans Inc., which is operating under Bankruptcy Court protection, said it is eliminating its Medicare HMO business in Los Angeles and Orange counties, a move that will affect 7,700 seniors.
The Los Angeles-based company had been trying to sell its California HMO business piecemeal, including its Medicare line.
The financially ailing company, with 250,000 members, declared bankruptcy May 25, hours after California regulators seized control of it.
The announcement is effective Aug. 31. The company ended Medicare coverage in San Bernardino and Riverside counties last year.
Maxicare members with questions about their coverage under the Max 65Plus Medicare plan should contact (800) 392-6565.
