UC Riverside 81, Cal Poly San Luis Obispo 77--John Galbreath scored a game-high 20 points to lead the host Highlanders (2-7, 1-1 in conference play) to their first Big West victory.
Vili Morton had 16 points, 13 rebounds and five blocked shots for Riverside, which joined the Big West this season.
Two free throws by Varnie Dennis with 2:22 remaining tied the game at 74-all, but two foul shots by Galbreath and a jump shot by Kevin Butler put the Highlanders ahead for good.
The Mustangs (6-3, 1-1) were led by Brandon Beeson’s 16 points.
Cal State Northridge 57, Idaho 56--Markus Carr had 14 points and seven assists to lead the Matadors (2-7, 1-1) to a Big West victory over Idaho (2-8, 0-2) at Moscow.
Both teams shot below 40% from the field, but Northridge made 12 of its 19 free throws while the Vandals converted on nine of 19.
Marquis Holmes and Justin Logan each had 11 points for Idaho.
