Madame Tussaud Goes Broadway: It Figures
Madame Tussaud’s uncanny replicas of celebrities are waxing glamorous at a new venue: New York’s Times Square.
The $50-million, 85,000-square-foot branch of the London attraction displays nearly 200 life-size figures on five floors at 234 W. 42nd St. It’s the fourth satellite of the London original; the others are in Las Vegas, Hong Kong and Amsterdam.
New York’s movers and shakers, such as Mayor Rudolph Giuliani, get the spotlight. There’s a “virtual carriage ride” through New York history. Hollywood is also well represented, with Frank Sinatra, Brad Pitt, Barbra Streisand and many more. The next president will be there too; George W. Bush and Al Gore figures are in the works.
Hours are 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sundays through Thursdays, 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays. Admission to the museum only is $15.95 adults, $14.50 for those 60 and older, $12.75 for ages 4 to 12. Tel. (800) 246-8872, Internet https://www.madame-tussauds.com.
