On Different Paths: The L.A. County Museum of Art continues to search for a director of artistic affairs who will report to Andrea Rich, who joined the museum last November as its first president. But LACMA’s eastern counterpart is moving in the opposite direction. The Philadelphia Museum of Art has been the nation’s only other major art museum with a similar system of governance, although its top art specialist, director Anne d’Harnoncourt, and its president and chief executive officer, Robert Montgomery Scott, have been on equal footing. Upon Scott’s retirement later this year, however, D’Harnoncourt will assume the CEO’s responsibilities and Scott’s successor will fill the newly created position of chief operating officer, reporting to D’Harnoncourt.
