Benefit Screening of ‘White Balloon’ Tonight
A benefit screening of the acclaimed Iranian film “The White Balloon,” winner of the International Critics’ Prize at the 1995 Cannes Film Festival, will be held tonight at 7:30 at Laemmle’s Music Hall in Beverly Hills. The event, sponsored by the nonprofit group Relief International, will raise funds for orphanages in Chechnya.
The film, about a young girl who loses her mother’s money while out buying a goldfish for her family, is Iran’s selection for best foreign-language film for this year’s Academy Awards. Tickets to the benefit are $20. The movie will officially open at the theater on Wednesday.
