Three L.A. Filmmakers Among Grant Winners
Twenty-seven American and Latin American film and video artists have been awarded Intercultural Film/Video/Multimedia Fellowships of up to $35,000 each from the Rockefeller Foundation.
Among the 14 American recipients are three from the Los Angeles area: Carlos Avila, who will produce a series of four short films titled “Fiti-Novelas,” a reference to the serialized comic books of the same name; Lisa Mann, who will produce an experimental film about rape and sexual abuse called “Cat Calls,” and Meena Nanji, who will create an experimental video titled “A Net of Jewels.”
The grant program, co-sponsored by the Rockefeller, MacArthur and Lampadia foundations, honors excellence among media artists who explore intercultural issues.
