Farewell to ‘The Phantom’ of the Ahmanson
You’ve passed “The Point of No Return,” to quote one of the songs from “The Phantom of the Opera.” The Masked Man is splitting after the 1,772nd performance of the Andrew Lloyd Webber extravaganza in Los Angeles, and he won’t be back, no matter how often you may hum “Wishing You Were Somehow Here Again.”
The show now becomes a “Wandering Child.” A touring company is to visit Orange County next summer.
Then again, you could say to your richest friend, “Think of Me. All I Ask of You is that you get me a ticket to today’s finale at the Ahmanson.” Unfortunately, your friend is likely to quote the show’s opera diva, Carlotta: “Poor Fool, He Makes Me Laugh.”
