Derek Bell of the San Diego Padres was suspended for three games and fined by the National League for a run-in with umpire Greg Bonin. The amount of the fine was not made public and Bell appealed, so he can continue to play pending a hearing.
Bell threw a bat and helmet in Bonin’s direction and made “incidental physical contact” with the umpire during an argument about a called third strike on May 7 at Chicago.
