Film Service Company Reports Lower Profit
Matthews Studio Equipment Group, a Burbank company that sells and rents camera and lighting equipment to the entertainment industry, reported lower earnings and revenue in its fiscal second quarter. The decline mostly reflected fewer rentals because of a seasonal slowdown in production, the company said.
In the three months that ended March 31, Matthews earned $364,000, down 17% from a $436,000 profit a year earlier. Its revenue fell 15%, to $5.67 million from $6.71 million.
However, Matthews six-month profit rose 52%, to $856,000 from $565,000 in the comparable period a year before. Its six-month revenue declined 7%, to $11.3 million from $12.1 million.
