Horsemen Won’t Block Release of Document

The California Horsemen’s Benevolent and Protective Assn. called off plans Tuesday to seek a court injunction, which clears the way for the California Horse Racing Board to release an edited version of an investigation into last year’s horse-drugging cases at Santa Anita and Hollywood Park.

The racing board plans to release the report, which was prepared by the California Department of Justice, before its meeting Friday in Arcadia.

“On balance, it made more sense not to go ahead in court,” said attorney Bob Forgnone, a spokesman for the CHBPA. The CHBPA, a group that represents owners and trainers, has objected to the publication of the names of trainers whose cases were dismissed by the board. The Times identified the trainers last week.
