KOCE Channel 50 has been awarded $300,000 by the Harry and Grace Steele Foundation. Half the money must be matched 3 to 1 by donations from viewers, and $100,000 must be matched 2 to 1 by businesses. The $50,000 in non-matching funds is to be used for public service announcements. KOCE has also received $1,000 from the Orange County Community Foundation, for public service announcements regarding nonprofit children’s service agencies. This grant launches development of a KOCE series of public service announcements on a variety of social services.
“GTE the Everything Pages Summer Classic ‘92,” an equestrian event Aug. 8 and 9 in Huntington Beach, raised $50,000 for construction of the planned Huntington Beach Arts Center. The money will go toward the center’s construction budget goal of $750,000. The center is scheduled to open in the fall of next year.
Auditions for the Chapman University Symphony will be held Aug. 31 and Sept. 1 from 7 to 10 p.m. at the university, 333 N. Glassell St., in Orange. For an appointment, call (714) 997-6914. Rehearsals will be held Mondays from 7:30 to 10 p.m. beginning Sept. 15.
