Senso (Bravo Monday at 8 p.m., Tuesday at 1 a.m.) Luchino Visconti’s 1954 masterpiece, an homage to a vanished era of romantic splendor, tells the turbulent story, against the backdrop of the fomenting Risorgimento, of a Venetian countess (Alida Valli) who falls madly in love--no other description will do--with a handsome lieutenant (Farley Granger) in the soon-to-be-overthrown Austrian army of occupation.
This Sporting Life (Bravo Thursday at 8 p.m.) Gritty landmark 1963 British film, written by David Storey and directed by Lindsay Anderson, in which Richard Harris plays superbly a coal miner who sees rugby as a way to a better life.
Napoleon (Bravo Friday at 7:30 p.m.). Abel Gance’s sweeping, legendary 1927 historic spectacle, restored in 1981 by Kevin Brownlow. You have to wonder how the film’s famous wide-screen triptychs will look on a TV screen.
