Tharp-Baryshnikov Tour May Bypass Both L.A. and O.C.
Twyla Tharp and Mikhail Baryshnikov have announced a 35-city collaborative tour of the United States, Canada and Mexico--but, so far, Orange County and Los Angeles are not on the list.
Orange County’s most likely stop for the dance world legends, the Performing Arts Center in Costa Mesa, can’t host the event because the dates available to Tharp and Baryshnikov, in January, already are booked by Opera Pacific, according to a Center spokesperson.
Michael Blachly, acting director of the UCLA Center for the Performing Arts, says he is in negotiations for performance dates at the end of the tour--which begins Nov. 30 in Texas and continues into February--but needs financial backing from a private source.
The itinerary at this point does include stops in Palm Desert on Jan. 11 and in Berkeley Dec. 4 and 5.
