BRIDESMAID THRILL: Eight-time Indy 500 driver Dan Gurney, who now owns All-American Racers in Santa Ana, finished second twice. But his greatest Indy thrill might have been in 1967, when he set a speed record of 167 m.p.h. . . . “We thought that was pretty fast then, and talked about maybe somebody going 200 some day. We never conceived you could get a car at today’s speeds of over 230.” Gurney, 61, will watch it on TV. He has a car of his own racing in Connecticut Monday.
