Driving Miss Bessie: Oscar-winning producers Richard and Lili Zanuck are teaming again with their “Driving Miss Daisy” director, Bruce Beresford, for a biographical drama on the life of singer Bessie Smith. The screenplay is by Horton Foote, also an Oscar winner. His son Walter Foote will serve as executive producer. “Bessie” will be filmed on location in Chicago and in the South, following Smith’s rise from an impoverished childhood to a legendary career until her death in a car accident in 1937. No casting was announced.
