Rep. Elton Gallegly (R-Simi Valley) said Thursday that he has endorsed former Rep. John H. Rousselot in his bid to win the Republican nomination in the new 25th Congressional District that spans the Antelope and Santa Clarita valleys and part of the northwest San Fernando Valley.
Rousselot, a Lancaster management consultant, faces an uphill fight in the June 2 primary contest against Assemblyman Phillip D. Wyman (R-Tehachapi) and Santa Clarita Councilman Howard (Buck) McKeon, both of whom appear better-financed.
Gallegly’s current 21st District includes about 20% of the newly drawn 25th. “John is a great guy,” Gallegly said in an interview. “He has a tremendous amount to offer. I have great respect for him. I’ve told him he can use my name.”
Gallegly said he did not plan to raise money or campaign for Rousselot. “I’m not going to have much time to help anyone,” Gallegly said, noting that he is seeking reelection himself in a newly drawn district.
