Video Rental Chart : Impressive Debut for ‘Deceived’
“Deceived,” the thriller starring Goldie Hawn, debuted impressively on the Billboard magazine rental chart--at No. 7. It did fairly well at the box office ($28 million), indicating it should have enough appeal to make the Top 5 rentals. “Curly Sue,” the family comedy starring Jim Belushi and Kelly Lynch, entered the chart a bit lower, No. 10, but it, too, seems destined for the Top 5. “Curly Sue,” which grossed $30 million, is the kind of comedy that’s attractive to many renters. “Billy Bathgate,” the Dustin Hoffman gangster movie that took a bath at the box office, entered the chart at No. 12. There should be enough renter interest in this drama for it to crack the Top 10.
* “Ricochet,” the cop thriller starring Denzel Washington and John Lithgow, debuted at No. 35. Based on the cast, which includes Ice-T, and respectable box-office business ($22 million), “Ricochet” should bound up the chart next week.
