Seattle Mariner owner Jeff Smulyan will be absent when a Japanese-led group makes a formal presentation today to buy the American League franchise for $100 million.
The Baseball Club of Seattle, headed by billionaire Hiroshi Yamauchi, president of Nintendo Inc. of Kyoto, Japan, made a $100-million offer last week to buy the financially troubled Mariners from Smulyan.
