MUSIC/STAGE
Sour Notes: Also in London, Andrew Lloyd Webber has been hit with musical mudslinging from Buckingham Palace’s official composer, Malcolm Williamson, following a leaked report that Lloyd Webber’s works will be featured at an upcoming royal pageant celebrating the 40th anniversary of Queen Elizabeth’s coronation. As Master of the Queen’s Music, Williamson normally would be called upon to compose something for such an occasion. But apparently he will be left out. Feeling perhaps a tad bitter, he told the Sunday Times of London: “Andrew Lloyd Webber is a composer whose music I find factitious and repugnant. . . . I’m not an athlete but I would run 100 miles rather than listen to ‘Cats.’ Lloyd Webber’s music is everywhere, but then so is AIDS.” Lloyd Webber declined comment.
