Art Sansom; Cartoonist Created ‘Born Loser’ Strip
Art Sansom, 70, who created the comic strip “The Born Loser” now printed in 1,200 newspapers. Trained in art at Ohio Wesleyan University, Sansom joined the Newspaper Enterprise Assn. in 1945. He created the strip about the tribulations of potbellied office worker Brutus Thornapple for that syndicate in 1965. Sansom and his son, Chip, 39, who will continue the strip, won the best humor comic strip award from the National Cartoonist Society in 1988 and 1991. On Thursday in Cleveland of a liver ailment.
