Three Degrees of Probation: The man who posed as the son of actor Sidney Poitier--inspiring the hit Broadway play “Six Degrees of Separation”--was sentenced Monday in New York to three years’ probation for giving a judge a bogus ambulance report as an excuse for missing a court date. David Hampton, 26, already has completed a 21-month term in prison for second-degree attempted burglary. That charge stemmed from his tricking a wealthy Manhattan couple into thinking he was Poitier’s son and a college chum of their children. Poitier has six daughters but no sons. Playwright John Guare used the story as the basis of his critically acclaimed play.
