New and Winning Voices: Two tenors, Brian Asawa and George Ingram III, shared top honors in the Western Regional Finals of the Metropolitan Opera auditions held Friday night at USC and will compete for contracts with the opera company at the national finals next spring. Asawa, 24, a countertenor from Los Angeles, took home a cash prize of $3,400, as did tenor Ingram, 23, of Tucson. Second prize of $2,300 went to baritone Earl Patriarco, 23, of Whittier. Chief judge in the regional finals was soprano Carol Neblett, representing the Met.
