Kuwait, though most of its athletes were trapped inside their homeland when it was invaded by Iraq, started the Asian Games in Beijing with a 2-1 soccer victory over Hong Kong. The soccer team had been traveling when Iraq invaded Aug. 2.
Iraq has been expelled from the Games until Kuwait’s national team can function normally again.
