PARIS — Jeremy Becque, 16, one of France’s most promising young tennis players, died of a ruptured aneurysm while jogging, his tennis club, Parc Ducup, announced today.
Becque collapsed and died on Tuesday while jogging in Perpignan, his hometown in southern France, the club said. Earlier, he had worked out and had shown no signs of illness, French Tennis Federation officials said.
An aneurysm is a sac formed by enlargement of the weakened wall of an artery.
Jacques Dorfmann, a senior federation official, said Becque was considered France’s most promising youngster in the 16 and under category. Becque had won several titles, including the French national 16-and-under championships last month at Roland Garros stadium.
