NEW HAVEN, Conn. — A memorial service for the late Baseball Commissioner A. Bartlett Giamatti will be held Oct. 6 at Yale University, the school announced today.
Giamatti, who died Sept. 1 at 51, served as Yale’s 19th president from October, 1978, to June, 1986.
The public service will be held in Woolsey Hall, where Giamatti was inaugurated as Yale president 11 years ago.
Giamatti was buried Sept. 6 at the Grove Street Cemetery in New Haven, the traditional burial site for Yale presidents, after a private graveside service attended by about 50 family members and close friends.
