Pepperdine Meets Mississippi Valley State

Pepperdine’s basketball team, 4-3 after Thursday night’s 73-70 loss to UC Santa Barbara, will play host to Mississippi Valley State, which is also 4-3, at 7:30 tonight at Firestone Fieldhouse in Malibu.
Tom Lewis scored a game-high 22 points against the Gauchos and is averaging 18 a game. Dexter Howard, Pepperdine’s leading scorer with a 19.5 average, was held to 10 points and fouled out late in Thursday’s game.
Mississippi Valley, in Itta Bena, Miss., became prominent when wide receiver Jerry Rice, now with the San Francisco 49ers, played there.
The Delta Devils’ basketball opponents this season have included Dayton, Miles College and Baptist Christian.
