Pick Systems, an Irvine computer firm, and Grid Systems Corp. announced an agreement under which Pick will supply versions of its computer software for use on Grid’s laptop computers.
Pick Systems licenses its Pick computer operating system for use on business computers in manufacturing, distribution, accounting and other applications. The operating system is the underlying program that manages the computer.
Fremont, Calif.-based Grid manufactures lightweight, portable personal computers known in the industry as laptops.
“Grid is a very popular laptop, and there has been a big demand for Pick on laptops,” said Frank Petyak, Pick vice president of sales.
“Pick is a growing force in the industry,” said Bruce Walter, a senior vice president at Grid. “We expect that this Grid/Pick partnership will open new markets for both companies.” Pick and Grid said their marketing efforts will target people who use personal computers away from the office to access information usually stored in a large computer at a central site. Such people include sales representatives, service workers and emergency medical personnel.
