Local News in Brief : 2 Quake Centers to Close
- Share via
Earthquake relief officials are planning to close two of the four remaining aid application centers and cut back on the telephone hot line hours, now that the number of inquiries is dropping.
On Saturday, the centers in Alhambra and at the Bellevue Recreation Center in Los Angeles will close, leaving only centers at the Harvard Recreation Center in Los Angeles and the Quad Mall in Whittier.
The disaster hot line will cease Sunday operations this weekend. It will continue to operate Monday through Saturday, 8 a.m. through 7 p.m. The hot line--1 (800) 338-7693--was started Oct. 10 and through Wednesday had received about 16,000 calls.
