‘Stopping Sports Terrorism’

I would like to offer a suggestion to your editorial which rightly criticized the relationship of the National Football League to host cities. I believe one way to alter the present one-sided bargaining arrangement is for the cities to form an association which would bargain collectively with the NFL owners’ council.

The stadiums are nearly all owned by the taxpayers. Having supplied these main capital assets, they find they have little or no influence in their use. Cities that have been dumped such as Oakland and Baltimore would be entitled to be charter members.

I don’t know if a special law by Congress authorizing this would be necessary, but I believe the public would support this approach.
