SOUTH COAST REP TO PREMIERE TWO PLAYS

South Coast Repertory Theatre will present world-premiere productions of Craig Lucas’ “Prelude to a Kiss” and Jim Leonard Jr.’s “V & V Only” in 1987-88, SCR artistic directors David Emmes and Martin Benson announced Wednesday in Costa Mesa.

The Lucas play, which was commissioned by the theater company, will run Jan. 15 to Feb. 18 in SCR’s Mainstage. The director will be Norman Rene, who also staged Lucas’ “Three Postcards” and “Blue Window” for the theater.

The Leonard work, directed by Marshall W. Mason, will be mounted March 18 to April 17 in SCR’s Second Stage. It will be a co-production with New York’s Circle Repertory Theatre.

The American premiere of Louise Page’s “Golden Girls,” staged by David Chambers, will run June 10 to July 14 in the Mainstage. The West Coast premiere of “Haut Gout” by Allan Havis, will be presented Sept. 25 to Oct. 25 at the Second Stage. Jody McAuliffe will direct.

Other productions in the 507-seat Mainstage will be George Bernard Shaw’s “Misalliance,” to be directed by Benson (Sept. 11 to Oct. 15); David Mamet’s “Glengarry Glen Ross,” to be staged by Emmes (Oct. 30 to Dec. 3); Wallace Shawn’s “Aunt Dan And Lemon” (March 4 to April 7, director to be announced) and Richard Brinsley Sheridan’s “The School for Scandal,” directed by Paul Marcus (April 22 to May 29).

Also set for the 171-seat Second Stage is Michael Flynn’s “Benefactors” running Nov. 13 to Dec. 13 (director to be announced).

Two other works are still to be announced for the Second Stage season. Emmes and Benson said these are expected to be plays being developed in SCR’s Collaboration Lab program or Colab.
