WEEKEND BOX OFFICE
Lest this report resemble a broken record, it should be noted that Universal’s “Secret of My Success” led the box-office stakes again last weekend--for the fourth straight week--with the Michael J. Fox starrer garnering $3.8 million at 1,337 screens. The weekend’s biggest freshman opening movie was Tri-Star’s “Gardens of Stone”--even if director Francis Coppola’s latest collected a disappointing $1.6 million at 800 theaters. “Blind Date” and “Lethal Weapon” stood out among the veterans, earning $2 million and $1.4 million respectively over the weekend. Among the exclusive openings, Island’s “River’s Edge” did well in its opening weekend at three screens in New York and Los Angeles, taking in $67,794--or $22,598 per screen.
