Bonne Ile Wins Yellow Ribbon

English horses were disappointing in Saturday’s Breeders’ Cup races, but an English-bred 5-year-old mare, Bonne Ile, won Sunday’s $400,000 Yellow Ribbon Stakes at Santa Anita before a crowd of 43,039.
Bonne Ile, who began running in the United States in June after a European career, was able to get through on the rail in the stretch and beat the pace-setting favorite, Top Corsage, by a half-length. Carotene, a Canadian horse, was nosed out by Top Corsage for the place in the 12-horse field.
Ridden by Fernando Toro, Bonne Ile paid $10.80 as the second betting choice, earning $240,000 for her owner, A.M. Budgett. The time for 1 miles on grass was 2:01 2/5.
