NCAA Imposes a Double Standard

Thank you for Jim Murray’s column on the “cons and pros” of college athletics. From Jim Thorpe to the Nebraska ticket “scandal” the myth of amateurism in college and Olympic competition has been nothing but hypocritical and unfair.
I went to USC for seven years (undergraduate and law school). As students we could purchase “activity books” for $20 or $30, which included football tickets and an option on a Rose Bowl ticket. If “scalping” tickets was a basis for suspension of law students, we would have had a pretty empty law school.
The double standard imposed on football players is nonsense, and the potential for selective enforcement is frightening.
