UNDERSOULED
We recently saw Ray Charles perform at the Beverly Theatre at $18 a ticket. Outside the theater a group was demonstrating against his decision to perform in 1981 in South Africa.
Charles was onstage for a total of 35 minutes, 10 of which were taken up by two songs from his back-up singers.
Poor lighting, badly mixed sound and 25 minutes from “the soul genius”; I am inclined to believe that he would play before anyone no matter what the circumstances.
What a disappointment.
