AUSTIN — Lady Bird Johnson was recuperating Saturday from fatigue and weakness after a fainting spell, a spokeswoman for the former First Lady said.
Doctors at St. David’s Hospital said that the fainting spell Wednesday was not caused by a major medical problem and that Mrs. Johnson may be released today, spokeswoman Robin Byrne said. Mrs. Johnson, 73, collapsed during the funeral of a longtime friend, Austin newscaster Paul Bolton, 82. Byrne said Johnson also experienced “some distress” from a knee injury she suffered when she tripped and fell Tuesday on a hiking trail near downtown Austin.
