Citing loss of confidence in Fred Croton, general manager of the city Cultural Affairs Department, 19 of 27 members of the Los Angeles Board of Municipal Art Gallery Associates have submitted a joint letter of resignation to Mayor Tom Bradley. The resignations, effective Sept. 30, stem from a move by Croton to change the duties of Josine Ianco-Starrels, acting director of the Municipal Art Gallery. Because of the resignations, Bullock’s department stores said it is withdrawing financial support from two key gallery events.
