Warner agreed to settle an antitrust lawsuit.
The company and three of its subsidiaries agreed to the settlement terms in a federal suit charging the company with conspiring to fix record and cassette tape prices. Warner Communications will pay $5 million in cash and $3.5 million in advertising assistance to a group of record and tape wholesalers and dealers. Warner did not admit liability in the case, which was bought in 1982 by United National Record of Gary, Ind. Warner previously paid $17.1 million to several other record companies in related cases.
