Airfare sale roundup: $235 to Nassau and $149 to Alaska from L.A.

With the high cost of airline tickets, it’s worth keeping an eagle-eye out for one-day sales that could make a spring or summer trip super affordable. Here are sales on right now (Tuesday) that offer good savings, but check the baggage fees for each airline to make a fair comparison and keep the deal real.

AirTran Airways [(800) 247-8726] offers a sale to a range of cities, but not all prices were super low, so choose your destination carefully (Portland, Ore., for $202 each way, for example, is no deal in my book). Here are AirTran’s sale fares I liked: $179 to Charlotte, N.C.; $157 to Fort Lauderdale, Fla.; $222 to Orlando and $182 to Philadelphia. Travel is good through May 29 with blackout dates. International destinations: one-way for $236 to Aruba and $235 to Nassau, Bahamas, for travel through May 20, with blackout dates. I checked L.A.-to-Nassau flights and found the slightly lower rates of $230 leaving May 9 and $226 returning on May 16 -- pretty inexpensive for a trip to the Caribbean. Sale ends 11:59 PDT Thursday.

Frontier Airlines [(800) 432-1359] puts two Colorado destinations from L.A. on sale: $90 one way to Colorado Springs and $102 one way to Denver. Travel is good through June 13. I went online to check Frontier’s website, which displays sale rates on a monthly calendar. I saw no $90 seats to Colorado Springs for April, limited selections in May and lots of availability in June. Sale ends 8:59 p.m. PDT Thursday.

Jetblue Airways [(800) 538-2583] offers $50 one-way flights from Long Beach to Sacramento, San Francisco and Oakland; $39 to Las Vegas; and $90 to Seattle and Portland, Ore. Other sale one-way airfares include $145 to New York City from Los Angeles and Long Beach; $149 from Long Beach to Washington, D.C., and Alaska. Travel is good from April 17 to June 20 on selected days. I found availability for $149 to New York City leaving Long Beach on May 2 and returning May 9. Sale ends 8:59 p.m. PDT tonight (Tuesday).

Southwest Airlines [(800) 435-9792] puts Chicago on sale with one-way flights to the Windy City for $162 from Los Angeles, $208 from Burbank and $180 from Santa Ana. The deal is good for travel from April 17 through May 23 on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Saturdays. I checked dates in April and May online and found availability for the Los Angeles fare at $162 and the slightly lower Web-only rate of $149 too. Sale ends 11:59 p.m. PDT tonight (Tuesday).
