Wild West Storyfest

Highlights: readings by novelists and poets, writer workshops, Old West reenactments, Western and nature art, cowboy grub.
Cost: $15, 12 and younger free; $10 to attend workshop.

GARBERVILLE
Summer Arts & Music FestivalWhen, where: May 31 and June 1, Benbow Lake State Recreation Area, two miles south of Garberville on U.S. 101.
Highlights: held on the banks of the Eel River among redwoods; more than 100 acts on five stages, an all-media fine-arts showcase, kids’ zone, martial arts and dance demonstrations.
Cost: Tickets start at $12 per day, $20 per weekend pass.

When, where: May 17 and 18 on Castro Street between Church Street and Evelyn Avenue.

Asian Heritage Street Celebration
When, where: 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. May 17 in Japantown, on Post Street between Laguna and Webster streets.
Highlights: traditional and contemporary entertainment -- Korean folk dance, lion dancers, taiko drummers and pop music groups. Billed as the largest gathering of Asians in America.
