LAX shooting: 1 dead, several injured; gunman said to be in custody
A federal law enforcement official said that a TSA officer was shot and killed at a passenger screening checkpoint Friday morning at Los Angeles International Airport. Three or four other TSA employees were injured in the shooting at Terminal 3, the official said.
The suspect is in custody, the official said.
Officials have said the incident began about 9:30 a.m., but much remains unknown.
Phil Orpilla, medical services supervisor at LAX who works in the First Aid office in the Bradley International Terminal, said that “we were kept back because emergency personnel responded.” The First Aid office typically handles non-emergency cases.
Airport officials said via Twitter that flight operations are being “temporarily held,” except for arriving flights. Also, the airport “upper/departures level roadways are temporarily blocked by law enforcement. General public are being held back at law enforcement block.”
