Lonely Planet reveals top 10 U.S. travel spots

You’ll find picturesque area full of towering redwood trees four hours north of San Francisco. The Redwood Coast spans 175 miles of coastline and is home to forests of giant trees. The scenery might look familiar; it’s been showcased in film franchises such as “Star Wars” and “Jurassic Park.” Also, Redwood National Park turns 50 this year. Check out Humboldt County’s quirky shops, oysters and brewpubs.

Looking for an inspired place to visit this year? The folks at Lonely Planet are out with their annual list of the top places to travel in the U.S. The roster, now in its eighth year, includes compelling destinations from coast-to-coast, from space-related attractions in Florida to California’s Redwood Coast. Take a look at the top 10 picks, and start packing.

There’s a lot to explore in Boise, the capital of the fastest-growing state in the country. Award-winning wineries and breweries aren’t far from the snow-covered Rocky Mountains and the Boise River. Travelers can go skiing, hiking or bird watching.

In southestern Tennessee, right along the Tennessee River, sits Chattanooga. There are many things to do there for many different types of travelers. Families will love the Tennessee Aquarium, while lovebirds will enjoy a romantic river cruise down the Tennessee River.

Space lovers will be over-the-moon excited with this choice. The Kennedy Space Center, pictured, is one of many stops along the Space Coast in Florida. Visitors will also love Cocoa Beach for prime surfing, the Brevard Zoo, the Foosaner Art Museum, and the turtle and manatee habitats.
