When the 51st annual Orange County North-South 12th Grade All-Star Basketball Games tipoff Saturday at Cypress College, the two contests will include members from the Laguna Beach High boys’ and girls’ basketball programs.
In the girls’ game, Jackie Bento of Edison and Treasure Robinson of Ocean View are part of a 15-player roster and will play for the South team led by Laguna Beach Coach Mark Lewis. In the boys’ game, Zamir Kelly of Ocean View is on the 15-member South roster coached by Marc Popovich of San Clemente.
Bento, a forward was an All-Sunset League selection and Robinson, a forward/guard, an All-Golden West League pick, this year.
Mark Lewis called his South team a “great group of girls” that possesses “a lot of talent and a lot of size.”
Kelly, a guard, was MVP of the Golden West League for boys’ basketball.
“Zamir was solid for us all season, and played really well in league play,” Ocean View co-Coach Tim Walsh said. “He was a leader on and off the floor, and definitely earned the accolades he is receiving.”
The 12th Grade All-Star Basketball Games, presented by the Orange Coast Optimist Club, opens with the girls’ matchup at 5 p.m. The boys’ game will follow at 7 p.m.
