An 18-year-old man was shot twice outside a roller skating rink in Fountain Valley early Wednesday, police said.
Hundreds of people were gathered at the rink at 9105 Recreation Circle for a college night event when the shooting happened around 1 a.m., Fountain Valley police Sgt. Tony Luce said.
Officers were already in the area to help with crowd control when they heard and saw fireworks mortars going off in a parking lot nearby, Luce said.
Officers then heard gunshots coming from the same area, police said.

The man who was shot was struck in the upper and lower torso, Luce said. He was taken to a hospital and is expected to survive, police said.
Police called in backup to help interview the people who were in the parking lot at the time of the shooting, Luce said.
No arrests have been made and police haven’t found the handgun used in the shooting, Luce said.
